Addressing Your Vertigo Symptoms Naturally in Calgary

Meniere’s disease is a condition that affects the ear and can lead to severe vertigo, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, and the feeling of congestion in the ear.  Because the inner ear is intimately connected to our sense of balance, the vertigo attacks suffered by Meniere’s patients can be debilitating.  Wanting to be rid of symptoms, as well as the anxiety of when the next attack may occur, is often the number one priority for people who have been diagnosed with Meniere’s disease.  Traditional Meniere’s relief include:

  • Medications – some of the medications most frequently used by Meniere’s patients are for dizziness and are aimed at shortening the attack.
  • Injections – antibiotics or a corticosteroid injected into the middle ear may help to control vertigo
  • Surgery – surgical intervention may be recommended in some cases to decompress the endolymphatic sac within the ear.
  • Dietary changes – one of the first things traditionally recommended to Meniere’s patients is to limit salt intake with the goal of reducing overall fluid retention in the body.  Some other Meniere’s sufferers also claim that chocolate, alcohol, or caffeine causes a worsening of symptoms.

Regardless of your chosen relief option, there’s a big difference between simply managing symptoms and getting to the root cause of any condition.  In order to attain lasting results, the underlying cause must be addressed.

Upper Cerxvical Chiropractic and Natural Vertigo Relief

Even though your vertigo attacks may be infrequent, they can still be terribly debilitating.  An episode can last anywhere from 15 minutes to an entire day or more.  The dizziness, spinning, fatigue, and other symptoms can lead to problems that affect normally simple tasks such as walking your children to school or driving to work.  There can be many factors that lead up to a vertigo attack, but they typically all have one thing in common.  The vertebrae of the spine are designed to provide protection for the central nervous system.  The uppermost vertebra in the spinal column, the atlas, can cause severe stress on the nervous system and body with even a small degree of misalignment.  As an upper cervical chiropractor, I am trained to analyze for and gently correct these specific misalignments.  Restoration of normal atlas alignment is key to recovering from vertigo as well as other symptoms that have their root in the central nervous system.
