Are You Sure You Have Migraine Headaches?

There are times when people are having such a severe headache that they think they are having a migraine headache. They think they are the same thing. However, there are many kinds of headaches out there. Knowing which headache you have could help you figure out the best way to get rid of them.

What Exactly is a Migraine Headache?

45 million people in the United States suffer from migraine headaches. Females generally are affected more but that doesn’t mean men do not get them as well. These headaches are sometimes so bad that the majority people do not go into work or school. These headaches are located on one side of the head. People describe them as pulsating or throbbing and become super sensitive to light and sound. A lot of people can feel a migraine coming on where they see flashing lights or lines sometime even losing their vision. Numerous things can trigger one of these headaches like high amount of stress, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol or a lack of food or sleep.

What People do When They Have Migraines?

Typically, most Americans take medications to deal with all of the symptoms. The drugs fall into general classes of medicines including analgesics which are for general pain and ergotamines and triptans for migraine pain management. Some people also take anti-depressants.

What Are Migraine Causes That Are Commonly Overlooked?

The structure of the spine and the integrity of the nervous system are generally areas people do not look at for the cause of their migraines. The upper cervical spine is located the top of the neck. The brainstem is located there. A misaligned upper cervical spine can cause an imbalance in the nervous by putting pressure on the brainstem and creates the migraine symptoms. Thankfully, this dysfunction is a common mishap that upper cervical chiropractors aim to restore. When the top two bones of the spine are functioning normally after upper cervical chiropractic care, there is not any pressure on the brainstem and the nervous system is allowed to function free from interference and pain-free.
