Tension Headaches – Naturally Easing the Pain in Calgary

At some point in their lives, nearly everyone has experienced a tension headache, the most common type of headache amongst adults.  Tension headaches are usually mild to moderate and feel like the pressure of a band around the head, which is why they are sometimes referred to as hatband headaches.  Tension headaches can be episodic, happening only occasionally, or they can be chronic, occurring 15 or more times per month.  They are presumed to be caused by poor posture, inadequate rest, and stress.

As with most other types of headaches, relief for tension headaches is usually geared towards symptomatic relief.  There are also lifestyle choices that may lend themselves towards preventing the onset of tension-type headaches.  Some basic advice includes eating nutritious foods, staying well hydrated, and getting regular exercise.  Having a regular sleep routine is also important.  Caffeine can also be a headache trigger, so excess amounts should be avoided.

Another natural way to reduce the frequency and/or severity of headaches is to be certain that the alignment of the vertebrae in the neck is correct, especially the top two bones.  A misalignment, or subluxation, in this key area can potentially be the root cause of many types of headaches.  This is because the C1 and C2 vertebrae have the important job of protecting the brainstem, which controls many critical functions of our bodies.

A misalignment can cause headaches by obstructing normal neurological function, as well as normal blood flow between the head and neck.  At his Calgary upper cervical chiropractic clinic, Dr. Bohemier analyzes for and corrects these specific misalignments so that his patients can regain their quality of life.  Once normal alignment is attained, normal function is restored, and the body can function exactly as it was designed to.
