They may even affect simple things, such as daily chores and routines. Migraines can be hard to diagnose and more difficult to relieve. Those suffering from migraines live in dread of not knowing when and how severe the next episode be.

While the exact cause of migraines has yet to be pinpointed, there are some facts that are known that can assist in finding the underlying cause. What are these?

  • Insufficient oxygen supply to the brain is one factor that plays into the occurrence of migraines.
  • The top bones of the neck, the C1 and C2, are susceptible to misalignment because of their range of motion.
  • A misalignment in this area can hinder the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain and can impair neurological function. This creates a perfect setup for migraines and other kinds of headaches.

Upper Cervical Chiropractors and Migraine Relief

Various studies have been done to prove that upper cervical chiropractic can indeed help migraine sufferers. One such study was conducted by Erin Elster. She observed 101 people who suffered from migraines and other headache types, with 87 of them remembering specific trauma to their head or neck in the past. They received adjustments to the upper cervical spine. All of them saw some sort of improvement in as little as 1 or 2 adjustments. Some had their headaches go away entirely.

Minor injuries, such as tripping and falling, hitting one’s head on something, or a jarring motion can all have the potential to create a misalignment. If someone is suffering from migraines, a good place to start is to call our office and make an appointment. I examine my patients for misalignments and then use a gentle procedure to realign the neck, allowing the body’s natural healing ability to take over. Many of my patients have reported that they have seen a definite decrease in severity and frequency of migraine headaches.
