Tried and True Approach to Migraine Relief

If you stay current on migraine news and research, you will have noticed that there have been many reports going around on the Internet about a certain type of ear piercing that has provided some people with relief from migraines.  The piercing, called a daith piercing, passes through the innermost cartilage fold of the ear.  Claims that the daith piercing helps to alleviate migraines is based on the assumption that the jewelry passes through a similar point that acupuncturists use in their relief of headache pain.

When one suffers from migraines, any hope of finding an approach that provides more than just short-term relief is worth examining.  As for piercing the cartilage of the ear, the reports of successes give hope but have, unfortunately, not been supported by any research, and no article made attempts at interviewing an acupuncturist to support the claims.

Migraines are often thought of as neurologically based headaches, although no one exact cause has been identified.  An approach that has been bringing reliable and researched results is upper cervical chiropractic.  In a study by Dr. Elster of 101 chronic headache cases of people who underwent upper cervical chiropractic care, 85 patients’ headaches were completely resolved within 1 to 8 months of care and 12 had greatly reduced incidences of headaches.  Dr. Bohemier takes this same approach in his Calgary practice, helping his patients to achieve lasting relief from their migraine and headache pain.
