In 2012, the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research contained a case study about the effects of C1 and C2 misalignment on the brain. These are the top two bones of the neck and are the primary focus of upper cervical care.
The report contained a study involving a 75-year-old woman. She has suffered a concussion 10 years earlier when she fell. Throughout the next 10 years, she experienced constant problems due to post-concussion syndrome.
Thanks to a neurologist who was familiar with upper cervical chiropractic, the woman finally learned she had a misalignment in her upper neck. Hospitals had failed to see the misalignment despite performing several MRIs and CT scans.
Her symptoms included:
- Seizures
- Activity-induced
- Posture-induced (leaning forward)
- Migraines
- Coordination difficulties
- Weakness and fatigue
- A lazy left eye (not present prior to the fall)
What were the results of her upper cervical chiropractic care?
- Able to walk better
- Improved range of motion in her neck
- Increased energy
- Better balance
- Improved vision
- Lazy eye was restored
- Resolution of migraines
- Resolution of seizures

This poor woman suffered from her injury for 10 years because the medical field couldn’t figure out what to do to help her. If you are experiencing similar issues, upper cervical chiropractic may be the source of relief you have been looking for. Why does it work? When the C1 and C2 are out of alignment, it puts pressure on the brainstem. This can have far-reaching effects throughout the body. Restoring proper alignment allows the body to heal.
