Unfortunately, vertigo is a reality for millions of people. Even movie stars and singers suffer from this condition. One such example is that of Jordan Sparks, former American Idol star. Vertigo caused her not to be able to sleep for four nights in a row. She tweeted that she felt dizzy whether she was sitting up or lying down. Coincidentally, she has a famous song entitled Vertigo, about how love makes her dizzy. Sadly, she now understands the real impact of the condition vertigo.
Most often, medical doctors will recommend a number of different prescription or over-the-counter medications that may help temporarily. However, these medicines do not address the root cause of vertigo.

Vertigo and Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care
Vertigo is a vestibular disorder and is connected with dizziness and disequilibrium. Although these conditions are similar, they are not the same. But it is possible that their cause is the same underlying issue. Often it is seen to be a misalignment found in the C1 or C2 vertebra. Dr. Michael Burcon has done much research in the last 11 years about vertigo and Meniere’s disease (a disease that has vertigo as one of its major symptoms). His research included 139 patients who had been suffering from vertigo. These people had also had some form injury to their upper cervical neck due to whiplash. He wanted to see just how much specific chiropractic adjustments to the upper neck would help these ones. After two years of care, the patients reported that their symptom intensity went from 8.5/10 to 1.4/10. What amazing results!
The conclusion from the study is that (1) vertigo can be caused by a problem with the upper neck vertebrae and (2) upper cervical chiropractic care does help to ease the symptoms from vertigo by realigning any misalignment that may be present. If a person is suffering from vertigo, not matter his station in life, it is important for him to ensure that his spine is as healthy as possible by making an appointment for an evaluation.
