Throughout our lifetime we all experience falls, accidents, traumas or repetitive stresses. The mobility in the neck makes it more susceptible to misalignment or injury, so when these mishaps occur there is a chance that they may displace the relationship between the head and neck and create dysfunction. Misalignment in the head and neck can lead to a myriad of problems such as headaches, dizziness, neck pain and back pain just to name a few, but for most people the first sign of this misalignment is postural imbalance.
As we all know our posture is important. The further our posture is off relative to gravity the more stress it creates on our body. Most people believe their posture is a result of their habits. If that were true you would have to think about your posture all the time to keep it in place. Although your habits can contribute, your posture is more a result of the balance in muscle tone. The balance in muscle tone is controlled primarily in the head and neck.
So how does that work?
Your head is heavy and your eyes and ears are always trying to stay balanced relative to the horizon. If you tilt your head to the side you will note how the muscles of your neck have to change in tension to accommodate. Imagine if you always have a slight tilt in your head from some fall or accident, you will always have a slight imbalance in your muscle tension. Magnify that over years and it’s no wonder why most people get back pain in their lifetime because this problem is rarely checked. A lot of people with this problem note that when they get a massage their tension comes back shortly after.
How much tilt do you have in your head right now?
NUCCA is a specialization within the field of chiropractic that focuses on correcting the balance of the head and neck (upper cervical spine). This procedure is performed by using a gentle pressure behind the ear that is focused at shifting the position of the neck and the head back into its natural alignment. The direction of this pressure is determined by special x-rays of your head and neck to give the most appropriate adjustment for your misalignment. The result is a very gentle adjustment that sees immediate changes in your posture. The average correction in people’s posture in our office is 83% within 2-3 days. Most people that see us note how gentle the relief care was and how effectively it helped their pain with very few adjustments.
