whiplash-experienced-years-latter-shockWhiplash does not follow the usual pattern of injuries. Often, when we get hurt, the worst effects occur during the first few days. Then healing begins, and within a few days or weeks, everything is fine. Whiplash, however, acts differently. It could be weeks after an accident before the pain even sets in. Recovery time can also be extremely difficult to predict. Nearly half of people who experience whiplash many experience new symptoms years after the accident or injury occurred.

Symptoms of a past whiplash injury include dizziness and vertigo. A person may have sustained the injury a decade ago during a car accident or a sports collision, but who would connect that with a present symptom? Even injuries that seemed minor at the time could cause problems years later.

When we’re young, we figure any injury can be healed with time and some ice. Maybe at the time of the injury those things are sufficient to feel like you are healed. However, later in life, we can still experience the effects.

A renowned chiropractor—Dr. Burcon—performed research which showed 9 in 10 vertigo patients received benefit from an upper cervical adjustment. The connection between the neck and vertigo is clear, especially when you consider that half of whiplash victims later experience vertigo.
